Lynden's volleyball team fell to La Conner in straight sets 25-16, 27-25, 25-17 on Thursday, Sept. 12, at Lynden High School.
Despite losing the first set, the Lions battled back in the second to nearly even up the match at one set apiece. Unfortunately, Lynden wasn't able to seal the set after leading 24-21 at one point.
"It's our first match of the season, and we definitely had a case of the first-match jitters," Lynden coach Julie Clift said in a phone interview. "We are working things out ... and it was nice to come out and have a nice, competitive match."
Clift left the opening match of the season impressed with her team's willingness to battle.
"After the match, they came in the locker room and immediately started talking about things they can do better," she said.
Kat Webb led Lynden with 12 kills.
"She just pounds the ball," Clift said of Webb. "She puts the ball away every time."
The Lions (0-1) host the Lynden volleyball tournament starting Saturday, Sept. 14, at Lynden High School.
