Jillian Anderson and Jana Peterson of Ferndale captured the top two spots at the girls' cross country meet between Ferndale, Anacortes and Sedro-Woolley on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Anacortes. Anderson finished the 5K course in 21 minutes, 13 seconds, with Peterson coming in at 22:00.
Grace Dzieciuch of Anacortes rounded out the top three with a time of 22:38, and Bryanna Barritt led Sedro-Woolley with a time of 23:47. Anderson ran alone and was ahead for the entire race, Ferndale coach Nick Carlson said in a phone interview.
Lauren Tkacsik was third on Ferndale's team with a time of 23:18, and Katherine Chamblin came in fourth for the team in 23:42.
Tkacsik was the biggest surprise of the meet, and helped Ferndale finish strong without its two team captains, Carlson said.
