Anderson wins big for Ferndale

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 12, 2013

Jillian Anderson and Jana Peterson of Ferndale captured the top two spots at the girls' cross country meet between Ferndale, Anacortes and Sedro-Woolley on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Anacortes. Anderson finished the 5K course in 21 minutes, 13 seconds, with Peterson coming in at 22:00.

Grace Dzieciuch of Anacortes rounded out the top three with a time of 22:38, and Bryanna Barritt led Sedro-Woolley with a time of 23:47. Anderson ran alone and was ahead for the entire race, Ferndale coach Nick Carlson said in a phone interview.

Lauren Tkacsik was third on Ferndale's team with a time of 23:18, and Katherine Chamblin came in fourth for the team in 23:42.

Tkacsik was the biggest surprise of the meet, and helped Ferndale finish strong without its two team captains, Carlson said.

Kathryn Vajda captured Ferndale's fifth position in 24:58, and Kara Collins came in sixth with a time of 26:12. Elaine Morado filled the seventh and final position for Ferndale with a time of 27:43.

Ferndale's next meet is at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14 at Civic Stadium for the Sehome Invitational.
