Highway 9 to close this weekend in south Whatcom

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 11, 2013

Highway 9 near the Skagit County line will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, from Royer Street to NP Road. Signs at Nugents Corner and elsewhere will direct drivers to alternate routes.

Stremler Gravel of Lynden, the contractor on the $351,486 project, is replacing a culvert at NP Creek to open up spawning grounds for coho salmon and cutthroat trout, and improve habitat for other fish species.

Before the weekend, traffic is reduced to a single lane, controlled by a flagger. The single-lane closure, with short delays, resumes after the full closure is lifted on Monday. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
