Sultan defeated Blaine 4-3 in a non-conference girls' soccer matchup Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Pipeline Fields. Alexis Griggs had the game-winning goal in double-overtime for the Turks, her second goal of the game.

Ashley Quesada opened the scoring with a goal for Blaine in the 10th minute of the game, but Jazmen Griggs answered 10 minutes later for Sultan. Griggs netted her first goal of the game in the 34th minute, and Blaine's Olivia Olason evened the score at two with a goal in the 36th minute.

Jewelia Meischke put Sultan in front again with a goal in the 52nd minute, but Makayah Veliz tied the game at three with a 57th minute goal. The two teams decided to play golden goal overtime, where the first team to score wins.

Fallon Puckett had nine saves in her first varsity start for the Borderites. Blaine coach Kelly Tuski was most impressed by Veliz's goal - a volley into the net.

"We will be working on our formation in practice and improving on our start to the season," Tuski said in a phone interview. "Both teams brought every ounce of their effort to the field today."

Blaine's next game is 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, against Nooksack Valley at Nooksack Elementary
