Girders delayed at Padden Creek project in Bellingham

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 10, 2013

BELLINGHAM - The delivery of 50-foot girders to a bridge-construction site on Old Fairhaven Parkway at 20th Street is on hold.

The state Department of Transportation had warned drivers to expect delays at the site on Wednesday, Sept. 11, as the girders arrived. Crews found a problem with the supports for the girders, and their arrival is postponed to Friday, Sept. 13, at the earliest.

Drivers will face short delays when the girders are delivered. The date will be reported when it becomes available.

Crews are building the bridge so the city can reroute Padden Creek out of a 2,200-foot tunnel and into a natural channel. The creek improvements are expected in 2015.
