Outlook: The Mariners suffered a major blow when coach Bonna Giller learned 2012 Class 2A State Tournament singles champion Avery West decided to forgo his senior year of prep tennis to train in Seattle. The loss of West, coupled with nine graduated seniors, seems to make mighty Sehome a little more beatable. However, Giller still has a deep group she believes is capable of repeating as Northwest Conference champions. "It will definitely be a rebuilding year," Giller said. "I lost nine guys from last year, but the young kids that are coming up are doing a great job. They understand the commitment it's going to take and the level of play we expect at Sehome." The absence of West has left a void at the No. 1 singles spot, and there are a number of young talents competing for the position, Giller said. Those include sophomores Brady Anderson, Max Shmotolokha and Reece Gilbert. Upperclassmen Jeremy Delisle, Brendan Friesen, Aaron Goldfogle and Sam Humphreys also present Sehome strong veteran leadership. "The guys anticipate another conference championship and have the goal of another undefeated season," Giller said.
