North Cascades Highway is expected to reopen at noon Thursday, Sept. 12, one week after mud and rock slides closed the highway at its two mountain passes.
Favorable weather enabled crews to make good progress Monday, Sept. 9, clearing several slides that came down during heavy rains Thursday and Friday, Sept. 5-6. The road was closed between mileposts 147 and 171.
This is the second closure in the past month caused by mudslides. Much of the same section of Highway 20 was closed for several days beginning Aug. 10.
