FERNDALE - Two exercise-related companies soon will have more room to grow in a new facility.

Earlier this summer Pioneer Post Frame started construction of an 18,000-square-foot facility at 5519 Hovander Road. It's expected to be completed before the end of the year and will be home to Just For Kicks and Gym Star Sports Center.

Gym Star will expand by about 40 percent by taking about 12,000 square feet of space, while Just For Kicks will expand from 1,000 square feet to 6,000 square feet, said Doug Scoggins, owner of Pioneer Post as well as Just For Kicks.

For Gym Star, not only will it have features like trampoline pits that are conducive for gymnastics, it also will have enough parking to be able to hold gymnastic tournaments, Scoggins said.

Just For Kicks, a cardio fitness facility geared toward adults, will feature a hot yoga studio. Scoggins plans to have eight-week sessions as well as specialized training for specific groups, such as volleyball clubs and Ski to Sea participants.

By having both businesses in the same facility, Scoggins said it presents some interesting partnership possibilities.

"Parents will be able to drop off the kids at Gym Star and get in a workout at Just For Kicks," said Scoggins, adding that they are keeping that in mind while putting together schedules and are discussing the possibility of cross-company discounts.
