Slam's Matteson signs with Norwegian team

The Bellingham Slam announced Wednesday, Aug. 28, center Evan Matteson has signed a contract to play professionally in Norway this winter.

The 6-foot-10 Edmonds native and former Meadowdale High School standout departs for Bergen, Norway, next week where he'll join a club called Gimle BBK. Gimle plays in Norway's premier basketball division.

Matteson helped the Slam win an International League Basketball championship while posting 15.4 point and 7.5 rebounds per game. He also led Bellingham with a 1.5 blocked shot average.

Matteson will be the second Slam player to compete in Norway's BLNO league. Paul Hafford, who played for the Slam from 2008 to 2012, competed for the Ulriken Eagles during the 2009-10 winter season.
