Lynden Christian first back to school

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDAugust 27, 2013

Lynden Christian students were the first in Whatcom County to return to classes, heading back to school on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Here’s a list of first days for other schools across Whatcom County:

• Wednesday, Aug. 28: Schools in Blaine, Lynden and Nooksack Valley districts, and Lynden Christian kindergarten and preschool.

• Tuesday, Sept. 3: Bellingham, Meridian and Mount Baker schools.

• Wednesday, Sept. 4: Ferndale and Lummi Nation Schools.

As classes start up, so do school zone speed limits, student crosswalks and school buses on the roads. Police tend to be out in force in the opening weeks of school to ensure student safety.

One of the most common offenses is illegally passing a school bus when it is stopped. If its lights are flashing and the stop paddle is out, indicating it is picking up or dropping off students, motorists who pass it face a fine of $394.
