Western Washington University scored all three of its goals in the first half as it blanked the University of British Columbia, 3-0, on Saturday, Aug. 24, in an exhibition game at Thunderbird Stadium on the UBC campus.
The game was the first of three exhibitions for the Vikings, the defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions who are ranked No.12 nationally in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25.
WWU scored an own goal in the eighth minute when a corner kick deflected off a UBC player into the net.
In the 11th minute, Catherine Miles made it 2-0. Ashton Griffen was credited with an assist.
The Vikings' final goal came in the 38th minute when a shot by Kristin Maris rebounded off the UBC goalkeeper to Elise Aylward, who knocked it in.
WWU goalkeeper Alyssa Beauchamp made one save in registering the shutout.
WWU travels to Chilliwack, B.C. (Townsend Park), on Tuesday, Aug. 27, for an exhibition with the University of Fraser Valley.
