Deputies arrest man in connection with attempted burglary

EVERSON - Deputies arrested a 19-year-old La Conner man in connection with an attempted burglary early Saturday, Aug. 17, near a home off Hampton Road.

At about 7 a.m., deputies from Bellingham, Lynden, Everson and Sumas police departments responded to a report of a burglary in progress on the 2100 block of Hampton Road.

A resident encountered a male in her home, who then fled out of the house and into woods. The suspect, Robert A. Johnny of the La Conner area, took the woman's wallet and cellphone, according to Whatcom County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Huso.

Several police departments, as well as the Bellingham K-9 unit and Border Patrol, assisted in the search. The suspect was successful tracked in nearby woods, and Johnny was booked into Whatcom County Jail on investigation of residential burglary, second-degree theft and obstructing a police officer.

All of the woman's belongings were recovered.
