Ferndale man, 60, dies after crash at Grandview exit

FERNDALE — A Ferndale man has died after his pickup crashed on a southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp Thursday afternoon, Aug. 15.

Gaytor Donald Unick, 60, crashed his red 2003 Ford Ranger into a guardrail left of the Grandview Road exit around 1:15 p.m., said Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis.

The pickup rolled about 20 feet down an embankment, then came to rest on all four wheels. Unick wasn’t wearing a seat belt, Francis said.

He was rushed by ambulance to St. Joseph hospital but died before 4 p.m.

Francis did not know the nature of the injuries that proved fatal. Troopers continued to investigate the cause of the crash.

Unick owned a small construction business.
