The head of a county YMCA in Wisconsin is leaving his post there to lead the Whatcom Family YMCA.
Dan Powell's first day as CEO of the Whatcom Family YMCA is Sept. 12. He replaces Dave Harding, who retired at the end of June after 25 years at the helm of the Whatcom Y.
Powell has held the Door County post since July 2006, according to that organization's news release.
"He's a seasoned leader of the Y. He comes with great experience," said Kathy Hughes, chairwoman of the board of directors for Whatcom Family YMCA.
Hughes said Powell was a key leader for the Y movement, noting his involvement of more than 20 years. One of the main reasons the board hired Powell, she said, was his ability to work with other leaders and organizations to meet community needs.
