Muds to Suds offers two days of racing


The 2nd Annual Muds to Suds Mud Race is planning two days of races at Hovander Park in Ferndale.

Racers can choose either Saturday, Aug. 24 or Sunday, Aug. 25 to race. The net proceeds from the event will be given to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County.

Packet Pickup will be on Aug. 17-18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the new Sports Authority store at Bellis Fair Mall. Racers and teams are urged to pick up their race packet and not wait until race day. Race heats are already assigned.

Any person can pick up any number of racer or team packets as long as they have identification and sign for them.

All racers under the age of 18 must have filled out a Hold Harmless Agreement that is signed by a parent or guardian.

The Muds to Suds finish line will have several local food vendors, music, Boundary Bay Brewery beer garden as well as a fire truck to hose off participants and a fire to warm everyone up.

Camping will be allowed Saturday, Aug. 24, at Hovander Park for both tents and RVs at a cost of $20 per groups of four. The Ferndale Street Festival takes place all day on Saturday with music in the evening.

The Bellingham Tennis Club & Fairhaven Fitness is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a party and open house on Sept. 7th .

Prizes and free tennis and fitness activities will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Club is offering a one-day only $0 initiation joining deal (save from $100-$600). After this one day, they'll offer a total of 40 memberships at $40 initiation as part of their birthday celebration.


The Bellingham Blazers, a junior A tier III hockey team, is seeking families to host players for the 2013-04 season.

The players are between 16- and 20-years-old. The regular season runs from Sept. 1, 2013 (practices start at the end of August), through March 1, 2014.

The players' families will provide the host family with a monthly stipend to cover expenses. The players will be attending local high schools or community college while they practice and play for the Bellingham Blazers.
