Thanks community for coal awareness

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDAugust 7, 2013

Our community owes a big thank you to everyone who has worked so tirelessly to bring the facts and consequences of increased mining and shipment of coal to the public eye. Special kudos go to RE Sources and Power Past Coal. Clearly, SSA Marine thought that they could ram this project through and the citizens of Bellingham and Whatcom County would sit idly by meanwhile. And clearly SSA Marine underestimated how well aware we are of the local, national and global perils of continued burning of coal. Special acknowledgement also goes to the Lummi Nation for their proactive opposition to the terminal project. We should continue to be alert to the conduct of the upcoming review process which should hopefully be carried out in a thoughtful and deliberate manner.
