Border Patrol confirms re-assignment of Blaine chief

BLAINE - The Blaine Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol released a statement Tuesday morning, Aug. 6, confirming the removal of its chief, though the statement included very few details.

On Monday, Blaine Sector Chief Patrol Agent John Bates was given "a temporary duty assignment to duties at Border Patrol Headquarters," according to a statement sent by Blaine Sector public affairs officer Jeffrey Jones.

"Blaine Sector Deputy Chief Patrol Agent, Henry Rolon, will assume the duties of the Chief Patrol Agent until further notice," according to the statement.

Jones said there would be no other statement in response to further questions about Bates' removal, which The Bellingham Herald first reported Monday.
