Roth 24th at golf tournament


Cody Roth of Bellingham shot a 73-78-151 to finish tied for 24th place in the 16- to 17-year-old division at the Washington Junior Golf Association State Championship on July 31 to Aug. 1 in Dupont. Roth did not advance to the final round.

Taylor Paul of Bellingham shot a 78-83-161.

The age divisions were played at The Home Course, Eagles Pride and Meadow Park Golf Course.

In the 14-15 age group, Kyle Baker of Bellingham shot a 79-82-161, Rees Kruhlak of Bellingham shot an 86-83-169 and Nick Nolan of Bellingham shot an 85-85-170.


The Bellingham Bay Swim Club finished 13th out of 52 teams at the Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships.

Katie Kaestner had two first-place finishes in the 100 breast (1 minute, 12.43 seconds) and the 200 breast (2:39.42), which are both team records, and finished sixth in the 60 free.

Cole Avery finished second in the 200 fly, third in the 200 back and third in the 400 IM.

Tiana Varang was third in the 50 free and fourth in the 50 back, and Yanran Le was third in the 200 breast.


Viviano Gutierrez, Dane Renkert and Glen Harvey had holes in one recently at Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

Gutierrez used a 4-iron to ace the 198-yard, par 3, No. 18 hole on July 25.

Renkert used a 9-iron to hit a hole in one on the 166-yard, par 3 No. 8 hole, also on July 25.

On July 31, Harvey hit a hole in one on the 120-yard, par 3, No. 13 hole using a gap wedge.
