Bellingham's The Unity Group acquired by global company

BELLINGHAM - A local insurance firm has been acquired by a global company.

Hub International Northwest, a subsidiary of Hub International Limited, has purchased The Unity Group of Bellingham. The Unity Group will retain its name and nearly all of its staff, which totals about 50. Two or three administrative positions may be eliminated, and the company is working with those who might be affected, said Kari Glennon, head of sales and marketing for The Unity Group.

The Unity Group will continue to make decisions locally with the current management team, she said. Barry Hanson, currently the president of The Unity Group, will be joining Hub Northwest as an executive vice president leading the Bellingham office.

Founded in 1929, The Unity Group offers a variety of business and individual insurance plans.

Glennon said this transaction benefits customers because it will allow The Unity Group to tap into a larger network, enabling it to offer more insurance product options.
