B y the numbers That is the age of the fossils you can dig at the Stonerose Interpretive Center and Eocene Fossil Site in Republic. It is the only location in the state dedicated to public fossil collecting. You can uncover fossils of plants, insects and fish at the site. The fossils are found in material that made up the bottom of a lake that covered the area in the Eocene Epoch. The center charges a fee — $8 for adults, $5 for seniors (62 and older) and children ages 6-18 and free for children 5 and younger — to dig on its fossil site. Learn more at stonerosefossil.org.
