Heading to Seattle this weekend? Expect traffic delays

Drivers heading to Seattle this weekend should expect traffic delays due to several major special events, including Seafair festivities, and late-night maintenance work on Interstate 5, said the Washington Department of Transportation.

Traffic near the downtown area will begin building around 10 a.m. each day and will continue to be heavy through the early evening hours, the department said.

- On Saturday, events include a UFC event at KeyArena at 12:30 p.m.; a Seattle Mariners game against Minnesota at Safeco Field at 1:10 p.m.; the Seafair Torchlight Run at 6:30 p.m. that will close Highway 99 through downtown, and the Seafair Torchlight Parade at 7:30 p.m.

- On Sunday, events include a Seattle Mariners game against Minnesota at Safeco Field at 1:10 p.m.; a One Direction concert at KeyArena at 7 p.m., and a Seattle Sounders game against C.D. Chivas USA, at CenturyLink Field at 8 p.m.

The I-5 and Interstate 90 express lanes have been adjusted in anticipation of additional weekend traffic. Drivers can check the Seattle traffic webpage at wsdot.com/traffic/seattle.
