Ceremony in Concrete will dedicate statue to fallen soldier


CONCRETE - Organizers of the Upper Skagit Patriot Day Celebration in Concrete will dedidate a statue Saturday, July 27 to a local Green Beret who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

The family of Douglas M. Vose III will be on hand for the 2 p.m. dedication at Concrete High School, as will Robert Gates, former Secretary of Defense and director of the CIA. Also planned are a 5K run, a parachute demonstration, military displays and live music from Knut Bell and the Blue Collars and John Van Duesen of the Lonely Forest.
