Volunteers sought for food drive during Northwest Washington Fair

LYNDEN - The Whatcom Volunteer Center is looking for people to help staff its food drive during the Northwest Washington Fair Aug. 12 to 17.

The nonprofit is working with local food banks to try to get 100 volunteers for the Northwest Washington Fair Food Drive, which will collect donations for 10 food banks in the county.

The goal is to collect 50,000 pounds of food during fair week.

Volunteers will receive free fair admission and parking on the day of their shift. Shifts last for three hours and include staffing information tables, collecting donations and talking to fairgoers about hunger in Whatcom County.

Volunteers are asked to attend one-hour orientations at 1 p.m. Monday, August 5 at the Ferndale Food Bank, 1671 Main St., and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 7 at the Community Food Co-Op, 1220 N. Forest St. in Bellingham.
