United earns trip to playoffs after win


The Bellingham United soccer team earned a trip to the Challenge Cup playoffs with a 2-1 victory Sunday, July 21, over the Victoria Highlanders at Civic Stadium.

Carlos Badillo scored on a setup pass from Kellan Brown in the 19th minute, and Brown then headed a corner kick into the net for his 14th goal of the season in the 59th minute.

With the win, the United finished the regular season with a 9-4-1 record and open the playoffs at the Vancouver Thunderbirds on Saturday, July 27, at Coquitlam.
