WWU's Mitchell, Fisher earn academic honors

Two Western Washington University men's basketball players - center Chris Mitchell and forward Damien Fisher - were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court announced Wednesday, July 17.

The Honors Court recognizes collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2012-13 season.

Mitchell was named the WWU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned College Sports Information Directors of America Capital One Academic NCAA Division II All-District first team recognition. Maintaining a 3.45 grade point average, he graduated in March with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.

Fisher, who also was a GNAC academic all-star last season as a senior, averaged 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds. He is a kinesiology major with a 3.86 GPA.
