Highway 9 closure in south Whatcom canceled

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJuly 17, 2013

A closure of Highway 9 this weekend at the south end of Whatcom County, between Royer Street and NP Road, has been canceled.

Drivers were going to be detoured around that stretch of Highway 9 from Friday, July 19, to Monday, July 22, but the highway will remain open.

The closure will be rescheduled. The contractor and the state Department of Transportation want to be sure the culvert at NP Creek can be replaced in one weekend.

The new culvert will provide access to a mile of salmon and trout habitat upstream of the highway, a DOT statement said.
