Concerned school plan too expensive

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJuly 16, 2013

As a homeowner (with no children mind you) I'm amazed at how freely the school district wants to spend my property tax dollars. For example, they want to spend $17 million to renovate the school district offices? On the same front page of today's Bellingham Herald I read that a company is going to build a 106-room extended stay hotel for a mere $6.6 million, complete with meeting rooms, pool and breakfast area. We could literally build two complete hotels for the pencil pushers to hang out in for less money! Can we please get a disinterested third party to go over the numbers they are giving us? I'm not completely heartless, if these kids need better accomodations I'd sure kick in a few bucks, but the amount of money we're talking about seems a bit bloated to me.
