Southbound I-5 lane in Skagit County to close next week for repairs

A lane of southbound Interstate 5 from Chuckanut Drive to Cook Road will be closed next week for asphalt repair.

The left lane will be shut down between 4 a.m. and 1 p.m. from Monday, July 15, through Thursday, July 18. Drivers should expect fairly lengthy delays, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Studded snow-tire wear and several harsh winters have caused cracking and sunken wheel tracks in the lane.

"If we don't fix this now, we'll be dealing with major potholing all winter," said Tony Hernandez, DOT maintenance superintendent.

The southbound on-ramp from Cook Road also will be closed during construction. Signed detour routes will help direct drivers.
