Bear festival jaunt

Trek through the annual McCleary Bear Festival during Capitol Volkssport Club’s walk Sunday.

The Capitol Volkssport Club is holding a walk as part of the three-day McCleary Bear Festival.

The walk will be Sunday, with participants allowed to start between 9 a.m. and noon at the Simpson parking lot at 600 Simpson Ave., McCleary. The walk has 6K, 10K and 16K options and is rated moderately easy. Walkers need to finish by 3 p.m.

The walk goes through McCleary and then onto a woodland trail in the Port Blakely Tree Farm.

Free walkers are welcome, and all participants must register, carry and return start cards. Water and restrooms are at the start and finish, and pets are allowed on leashes. This is Capital Volkssport Club’s first walk event at the bear festival.
