ELECTION 2013: Thomasson wants to strengthen small businesses in Blaine

Hello, my name is Brian Thomasson and I am running for Blaine City Council. I grew up in Des Moines, Wash., where I lived for 18 years before moving up to Bellingham to attended Western Washington University. While growing up I had the opportunity to see city government in action. My father was on the Des Moines City Council for 24 years with six of them acting as mayor. I had the opportunity to see how my dad was able to make a difference in Des Moines and make it a better place to live, and that is why I want to serve on Blaine City Council.

I graduated WWU in 2008 with a bachelor's degree majoring in accounting and sociology, with a minor in business management. After graduating, I worked at a few odd jobs before finding my niche. In 2009, I worked as an on-site property manager in Ferndale for two years and learned that I loved dealing with people, investment properties and real estate. I then decided to get my real estate license and was incredibly motivated to do so, completing all the coursework and passing my exam in one month's time. I have been a real estate broker ever since and have loved every second of it. I enjoy seeing people's dreams and goals come to fruition by either helping them sell their home, buy their next one or invest in local property.

I moved to Blaine the end of 2011 when my wife Ashley and I bought our first home. We have loved being in Blaine and are thankful to call this wonderful community our home. My desire in serving on city council is to give my time and energy in contribution to this beautiful city of Blaine and I am eager to get this city excited about potential developments for our town. I look forward to partnering and strategizing with the council and our community to see these goals come to fruition. One of my strongest assets is my keen sense of entrepreneurship and business dynamics, and I want to use this strength to explore how we can work together to grow and strengthen the small business community of Blaine. I am confident that my zeal and fresh perspective on matters in this city will go far and with all sincerity, I hope that you will grant me this opportunity to serve you on Blaine City Council.
