Third suspect arrested in connection with medical marijuana robbery near Lynden

BELLINGHAM - A third man was arrested Tuesday, July 9, in connection with an armed robbery at a home west of Lynden with a small medical marijuana grow operation, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies got a tip that Joel Ayala Morado, 28, was at a home in the 600 block of East Myrtle Street. They arrested him for investigation of first-degree robbery as he was leaving the home at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, Lt. Kevin Hester said.

Deputies believe Ayala Morado was one of three men involved in a July 3 robbery at a Glendale Road home that had a small, legal medical marijuana operation.

One of the men allegedly pulled out a handgun and shoved it in the face of the man who lived there and demanded money. The residents told police they were forced into chairs and held there while their home was ransacked. The three men got away with about $1,000 cash, half a pound of marijuana and TVs and electronics, Hester said.

The other two men believed to be involved were arrested over the weekend.
