BELLINGHAM - The second annual steampunk festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Fairhaven Village Green will include music, food, merchants and readings by local authors in the genre.

The event is officially called The Fantastical Mr. Flip's Carnival of Wonders and Curiosities. It is dedicated to Caleb "Flip" Kors, a budding local circus and street performer who died at age 10 while practicing.

Pennystinker, Faerabella and the Nathaniel Johnstone Band will provide the music throughout the day.

Village Books will host author readings every hour starting at noon, featuring John Jenkins on “Where Discovery Sparks Imagination: A Pictorial History of Radio & Electricity” (Jenkins will bring a small Tesla coil to demonstrate), Bernadette Pajer and her Professor Bradshaw mystery series; Karina Cooper reading from her St. Croix Chronicles, J. Cunningham reading “Secrets: Clockwork Series Volume 1,” and Phil and Kaja Foglio of the Agatha H. series and Girl Genius.

Costumes welcome but not required. The best-dressed costume contest roundup and raffle prizes will be handed out starting at 4 p.m.

Some proceeds from the event will go to a scholarship fund named after Kors that provides opportunities for children to pursue the performing arts.
