Bellingham calls for summer watering restrictions

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJuly 6, 2013

BELLINGHAM - The city recommends that residents follow a voluntary watering schedule through Sept. 15.

According to the schedule, people who live at odd-numbered street addresses water their lawns on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Residents at even-numbered addresses water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

There is no watering on Mondays, to allow reservoirs to recharge after the weekend.

City officials suggest that residents let their lawns go dormant, or brown, in the summer. The average daily water consumption often doubles in July and August, straining filtration systems, according to the city Public Works Department.
