Sumas killer sentenced for attacking man in prison

A Sumas man who is serving a long prison sentence for murdering his wife got another five years behind bars for stabbing another inmate.

Wilbur T. Weeks was already serving a 28-year sentence for the 2010 stabbing of Deborah K. Leu at their Third Street home in Sumas.

He and another inmate attacked a third inmate at the state penitentiary in Walla Walla in July 2012, reportedly because the man is a practicing Muslim. They stabbed him with a broken radio handle while he was playing cards, leaving him with cuts and bruises, according to the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin.

Weeks pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced this week to five years in prison, to be served after he completes the murder sentence, according to the Union-Bulletin.
