Post 7 shows resilience after loss with 10-2 win

After the Bellingham Post 7 Senior American Legion baseball team failed to generate any semblance of an offensive attack in its first game against Lakeside on Tuesday, July 2, resulting in a 2-0 loss, the bats got rolling in a big way leading to a 10-2 win.

"I'm really proud the way (we) bounced back," Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. "Our backs were against the wall after they gave it to us in that first game, (and) the kids buckled down and weren't going to let it happen again."

Cooper Jansen made sure of that, tagging a bases-loaded double in the first inning of the second game giving the Post 7 an early lead it wouldn't relinquish with him on the mound.

"(That) got us going," Slesk said of Jansen's bases-loaded double. "We hit up and down the lineup... It was a real confidence boost for us."

Aaron Burke and Brice Longanecker both went 3 for 5, with Jansen picking up the win on the hill after managing his way through six innings of work.

The win in the second game forced the best-of-3 series between the two top teams in the league to play in a decisive league-championship game this weekend at Joe Martin Field.
