THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJuly 2, 2013

The deadline to register for the Aug. 6 primary election is Monday, July 8.

People can register online or submit a change of address at myvote.wa.gov, or go to the Auditor's Office in Suite 103 of the Whatcom County Courthouse, 311 Grand Ave., Bellingham, by 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Residents who have never voted in Washington have more time. Their deadline is Monday, July 29.

Three races in the county have a primary election this year. The at-large position on Bellingham City Council, which has a two-year term, is sought by Allen Brown, Bob Burr and Roxanne Murphy.

Four candidates are seeking a Blaine City Council position, including incumbent Charlie Hawkins. The challengers are Doug Dahl, David Gallion and Brian Thomasson. Only Blaine residents in Ward 2 will vote in that race.

Bellingham School Board member Steven Smith faces two opponents: Hue Beattie and John Blethen.

The Auditor's Office will mail primary ballots by July 19.
