Bellingham Festival of Music begins July 5

The Bellingham Festival of Music brings together classical instrumentalists and vocalists from major North American orchestras and other ensembles Friday, July 5, through July 21 in five concerts, with artistic director Michael Palmer conducting the Festival Orchestra.

All orchestral concerts are at Western Washington University's Performing Arts Center except the July 21 concert, which is at Mount Baker Theatre. Free pre-concert lectures at 6:30 p.m. precede each orchestral concert.

Highlights:

- July 14: The Chamber by the Bay concert will be held at Bellingham Cruise Terminal.

- July 11 and July 17: Free 2 p.m. chamber concerts will be held at Whatcom Museum's Old City Hall.

- July 19: Members of the festival chorus join WWU Choral Arts Symposium for a concert at 7:30 p.m. at WWU's PAC Concert Hall.

Also, a violin master class with Ray Chen is 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 8 at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, and an oboe master class with Joseph Robinson is 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 10 at WWU's PAC Concert Hall. Both are free and open to the public.
