METRO PARKS: July 14 event celebrates Titlow Park renovations

Metro Parks Tacoma is holding a grand reopening celebration July 14 at Titlow Park.

Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the makeover this waterfront park has undergone. There will be tours the century-old Titlow Lodge and a chance to learn about its history. The lodge was the former Hotel Hesperides, constructed in 1911. There also will be a guided nature walk along the lagoon, shoreline or woodlands.

Visitors also can check out the new sprayground that opened in May.

The 75-acre park is considered one of the park district’s five signature parks. It offers the opportunity to learn about the marine environment and shoreline habitat.

The park is a also a good spot for bird-watching, walking, picnicking, scuba diving and fishing.

The event will be from noon-3 p.m. The park is at 8425 Sixth Ave., Tacoma.
