Post 7 rides timely hitting to 3-2 win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 29, 2013

The Bellingham Post 7 Senior American Legion baseball team relied on timely hitting to defeat En Suego 3-2 on Friday, June 28.

While only managing four total hits, the Post 7 relied on sound, fundamental baseball to score its three runs, something not lost on coach Steve Slesk.

"Offensively, we really executed today," Slesk said in a phone interview. "All three runs were results of kids executing and moving kids along."

Tyler Knutsen provided the clutch RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning, driving in Tanner Olson after he led off the inning with a single and advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by Cooper Jansen.

Olson, while scoring the winning run, pitched a complete game, allowing just seven hits and striking out seven.

"His curveball was really sharp today," Slesk said. "He scattered some hits; he never let any bunch together.

"I was really proud of him competing... You give kids chances to gut through things, and he did that."
