Repairs to close Thornton Street in Ferndale

FERNDALE - A short section of Thornton Street will be closed for repairs during the summer. Drivers will need to take alternate routes.

The closure starts Wednesday, June 19, between Vista and Maureen drives. Construction should be completed by the time school resumes in September. The work area is in front of Skyline Elementary School.

The road section was badly damaged by winter freezes and thaws, and it was the No. 1 priority for repairs after voters approved a 0.2 percent sales tax increase in February 2012 for road fixes. Local funds for the project came from the tax.

Whatcom Transportation Authority buses will not serve Vista Drive or Thornton Street near Vista during summer construction.
