State Street Studio Theatre is opening the summer with "Spring Awakening," a groundbreaking musical, with a student-directed cast.
"Spring Awakening" is a rock musical based on a controversial 1891 German play that was banned because of its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide.
The production includes vulgar language, obscene gestures and controversial subjects, as well as flashing lights and fog. Audience members must be at least 16 to attend without being accompanied by an adult.
The musical is on stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 21- 22, continuing June 26-29 and July 5-6, and at 2 p.m. Sundays, June 23 and 30, at Bellingham High School, 2020 Cornwall Ave. Kaleb Van Rijswijck directs.
Tickets are $10. Details: 360-220-0267 or search for State Street Theatre Bellingham on Facebook.
