Sails offered aboard historic schooner Adventuress in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM - Adventuress, a historic twin-masted schooner built in 1913, is in Bellingham for sails Saturday and Sunday, June 15-16, as part of her 100th sailing season.

Sails are 3-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. on Father's Day at the Squalicum Harbor commercial dock.

Sound Experience members sail free Saturday. Annual membership costs $60 single and $95 for a household. Otherwise, tickets Saturday are $55 for adults and $25 for children. Member guest tickets are $38.50 and $17.50.

On Sunday, all fathers sail free. Tickets are $65 for adults and $35 for children under 18. Space is limited. To book passage, call 360-379-0438 or go online to soundexp.org.

Some 133 feet in length, the tall ship is a floating classroom for environmental education in the Puget Sound. It's registered as a National Historic Landmark. Passengers sing sea shanties, hear about the ship's history and can help with sailing tasks such as raising the sails.
