Matt Richard was a sixth inning swinging bunt away from a no-hitter Thursday, June 13, against Whalley, B.C., but his one-hit complete game was more than enough to lift the Bellingham Senior Legion Post 7 club to a 6-0 road win.

Richard, Bellingham's crafty left-hander, struck out nine in seven innings of work, walking only one batter.

"He pitched well," Post 7 coach Jeff Bearden said in a phone interview. "He came out and his curve ball had a lot of break to it from the very beginning."

His no-hit bid was broken up in the sixth inning on a bang-bang play at first, which came down to the first-base umpire's judgment call.

Post 7 scored two runs in the first then added scores in the fourth and the fifth before putting together a two-run sixth. Luke Christianson went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a triple, and Brice Longanecker went 2 for 2 with two RBI.
