Vista Drive closes next week for major Ferndale road project

FERNDALE - Vista Drive will be closed the week of June 17 between Third and Fourth avenues for the start of summer construction on the busy city street.

City officials don't know which day next week the contractor, Interwest Construction, Inc., will start the closure, which will be in effect about four weeks.

Crews will rebuild the road and replace an old sewer line. The full project, which extends from Second Avenue to the Malloy Avenue roundabout, could be finished before public schools start in the fall, project manager Katy Radder said.

Vista is lined with businesses that will remain open and accessible during the closure. The street is a main artery for commuters between Main Street and residences in north Ferndale. According to the latest traffic counts posted on the city's website, Vista is the second busiest road in the city, behind Main.

The city is hosting an open house about the project from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, in the WECU conference room, 5659 Barrett Road.
