Rules of the Road: Are semi trucks allowed in the left freeway lane?

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 10, 2013

Question: My understanding is that semi trucks cannot travel in the left lane. I see them travel in the left lane all the time driving through Bellingham and Burlington/Mount Vernon.

Answer: Where the freeway is three lanes wide, you will see signs that prohibit vehicles with trailers from traveling in the left lane. The freeway through Bellingham and Burlington/Mount Vernon does not have this prohibition. Truck drivers will occasionally move to the left lane to allow easier on- and off-ramp use for the freeway.

Q: : Is it legal to park a trailer or boat on a residential street?

A: It is legal as long as it is attached to a tow vehicle. It is not legal for them to be on the street not attached to a tow vehicle.
