Post 7 shut out by Skagit

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 2, 2013

The Bellingham Post 7 senior legion baseball team couldn't muster any offense, losing to the Skagit Sox 7-0 on Saturday, June 1, at Joe Martin Field.

Post 7's Pete Pennylegion recorded its lone hit in the first at-bat of the game, but failed in scoring any runs despite having runners in scoring position.

"Offensively, we just never got going," Post 7 coach Jeff Bearden said in a phone interview.

Despite a sputtering offense, starting pitcher Nate Trueblood managed to hold the Sox to no runs through the first five innings, but fatigue set in, Bearden said, and Skagit got to his starting pitcher to the tune of four runs in the sixth.

"He pitched really well," Bearden said. "Six strikeouts through five innings, he got a bunch of lazy fly balls, only gave up one hit through five, but he just ran out of gas."

Bellingham gets another crack at Skagit Sunday, June 2, when the two teams play in a doubleheader at Skagit Valley Dream Field starting at 3 p.m.
