BELLINGHAM - The nonprofit Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement has scheduled a number of free community workshops in June about making end-of-life choices.
Participants will learn why advance care planning is important; how to choose someone to be your durable power of attorney for health care; how to talk to loved ones and doctors about your preferences for end-of-life care; and how to complete advance directive paperwork.
Workshops dates and locations are:
-- Wednesday, June 5, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Spring Creek Retirement & Assisted Living, 223 E. Bakerview Road, just east of Meridian Street in Bellingham.
-- Monday, June 10, 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Deming Public Library, 5044 Mount Baker Highway.
-- Wednesday, June 12, 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Community Health Education Center, 3333 Squalicum Parkway, near the main campus of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham.
-- Wednesday, June 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Spring Creek Retirement & Assisted Living.
-- Wednesday, June 19, 5 to 7 p.m. drop-in at the Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement, 800 E. Chestnut St., lower level, in Bellingham. People who have questions or need additional help may drop by, even if they've already attended a workshop.
-- Tuesday, June 25, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Ferndale Public Library, 2007 Cherry St. at 1st Street near Pioneer Park.
