Bellingham senior Bella Hoyos dropped only two matches all season - one in a regular-season ending doubles match and the other in the singles semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament last weekend.

Not surprisingly, she has been selected the All-Northwest Conference Girls' Tennis Most Valuable player by the league's coaches.

Hoyos was 25-1 in singles matches this season and claimed 2A sub-district and District 1/2 titles as well as third place in the state tournament for a second straight year.

She plans to continue playing tennis at Whitworth College next year.

Junior teammate Kira Vazorka was a first-team All-NWC selection after she went 15-7 this season.

NWC champion Sehome placed four players on the first team, including sophomore Andrea Clawson and freshman Lauren Smith, who were paired together in doubles for the postseason and ended up winning the 2A state title. Clawson was 9-4 in singles play, while Smith was 14-0. Together they were 12-1 in doubles.

Sophomore Simone Hall and Lizzie Friesen, who also were paired together for the postseason until injury forced them out of the district tournament, were first-team selections. Hall was 14-0 in singles play, Friesen was 13-0 and they were 4-1 together in doubles action.

Rounding out the first team were Burlington-Edison senior Anna Lefebvre (22-5 in singles), Sedro-Woolley senior Pauline Mosch (18-9 in singles) and Anacortes junior Paola Jurkovich (9-12 in singles).

Whatcom County players making the second team were Sehome's Madison and Taylor Harris, Squalicum's Kirsten Powell, Bellingham's Catie Welch, Ferndale's Jamie Pettinger and Lynden's Devon Kollmyer.
