What's closed in Whatcom County for Memorial Day

Government offices and schools will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Grocery stores, Bellis Fair, most retail stores and restaurants will be open. Some smaller stores will be closed.

For places not listed below, call ahead to confirm Monday hours.

Here is the status of some offices and services Monday:

Whatcom County and city of Bellingham offices: Closed.

Bellingham parking meters: Not enforced.

Whatcom County Library and bookmobile: Closed.

Bellingham Public Library: Closed.

Banks: Most are closed.

Postal Service: Offices closed, no mail delivery.

Garbage service: SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal have regular pickup schedule, but trucks might be earlier than normal; put out trash the night before. SSC offices and the Bellingham Recycling Center/Transfer Station (F Street and Roeder Avenue) will be closed Monday. They will reopen Tuesday at 8 a.m.

Public schools: Closed.

Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College, Bellingham Technical College, Northwest Indian College: Closed.

Whatcom Transportation Authority: Closed, no buses running.

Movie theaters: Open.

The Bellingham Herald: Offices closed; regular newspaper delivery. For missed papers Monday, call 360-676-2660 from 6 to 9 a.m.

Boys & Girls Clubs: Closed.

Opportunity Council: Closed.
