This last Sunday evening as I read The Bellingham Herald I was in a good mood and in high spirits until I came across the article about the Nooksack tribe's plight over health care and being treated unfairly.
As usual, I believe the Indian always gets the raw end of the deal. The Indian was here first and is the true American. All of us who are here got here because our great-great-great-grand parents came over on a boat from some foreign country. We call ourselves Americans, but in actuality we are all just a bunch of mutts. The Indian no matter what tribe they come from did not come over on a boat, and are still not getting the respect they deserve, and I think this is deplorable.
America is called the big melting pot and there are many different nationalities and I just think that the American Indian should have the same rights as we all do under the Constitution. I believe that the Nooksack Indian Tribe deserves quality health care, and should not be penalized. I am Dutch, German and two-thirds Sioux Indian. Does this mean that I cannot have quality health care because I am not Indian enough? This is just plain disgusting.
